Aubameyang to miss Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that striker and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will miss their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.

The game, which is on Wednesday night, will be too soon for the 31-yar-old to return from the calf injury that ruled him out at the weekend.

The Gunners could have done with him too on Saturday evening as they lost 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park.

An own-goal from Rob Holding and a powerful Yerry Mina header sealed the points for Everton, either side of a Nicolas Pepe penalty.

The defeat means that they're just four points above the relegation zone and their last league win stretches back to the start of November.

Giving an update on Aubameyang on Monday morning Arteta said,

"Auba is not fit for Wednesday, that's for sure.

"[He] is feeling much better. He was more positive yesterday [Sunday] than in the previous two days.

"He will have another scan in the next few days and we will see how quickly we can get him back in the team.

"He knows how important he is for us, he feels the responsibility and he is trying his best to be fit as quick as possible."
