'The FA Cup was the thing that was supposed to throw off the shackles'

Arsenal might not have performed in dazzling fashion, but a win is a win and tonight's narrow victory over Southampton keeps the Gunners in the hunt for fourth place.

We were joined by Andrew Mangan of Arseblog to review the game and where Arsenal are at.

He spoke about how expectations have thrown this season into a worse light for fans.

"What's added to the frustration this season is that Arsenal mounted a pretty serious title challenge, even if they fell away at the end. There was mayhem when Arsenal lost the first game of last season and then they went on and won 10 games on the trot and got into a kind of rhythm and momentum which kept them going. The FA Cup at the end of the season was the thing that was supposed to throw off the shackles," said Mangan.

Mangan feels the midfield has not functioned adequately in front of a shaky defence, with injuries also taking a toll on the squad.

While, he does not expect Arsene Wenger to walk away or be pushed out, he also does not think shareholder Alisher Usmanov's comments about Wenger will not have any influence.
