Liverpool's Alisson Becker gave an emotional interview after scoring the winner for his side in injury time against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Liverpool defeated West Brom 2-1 in the Premier League, after Alisson scored through a header off of a corner in the 95th minute in The Hawthorns to keep their Champions Cup dreams alive.

Speaking toย SkySports after the win, an emotional Alisson mentioned where his love for football started and how he wished that his late father Jose could have been there to watch him score the winner.

"I am too emotional these last months after everything that has happened with me and my family," Alisson said. "Football is my life, I have played ever since I can remember as a human being with father.

"I hope that he was here to see it, but I am sure that he saw it with God on his side and is celebrating. For my family, and for the boys, what a fight."

Alisson was unable to travel home for his father's funeral in February due to the COVID-19 restrictions, making this last-minute winner even more emotional for 28-year-old 'keeper.

"I have been away from interviews for a long time," Alisson said. "When I talk about it I get emotional, but I just really wanted to thank all of you [the fans], all the Premier League, all the players.

"I received letters from managers, from players, from teams... I just want to say thank you to everybody from the supporters to the team. If it wasn't for you I could never get through this.

"I am away from my family since it happened. My wife has been amazing with me, my kids give me energy, and this is the way that God loves us; through people."

The Brazilian was very humble in his celebration of the goal, which he attributed to luck and divine intervention.

"You can't explain those kind of things, it is just football," Alisson said. "I saw it coming and I just tried to be in a good position to try to help my players and try to bring a defender.

"Nobody followed me and I was lucky and blessed to score. You can't explain a lot of things in life. For me the only reason for those kind of things is God, and he put his hand on my head today."

"I tried to look at the bench but nobody called me," Alisson added. "Then John Achterberg called me with conviction, and then it was just the perfect timing.

"The cross was brilliant again, I just tried to put my head on the ball and i think it was one of the best goals I saw. It is the best [and first] time I have scored.

"I don't have too many words. I just have to say thank you to the players, because they fight a lot, we fight, we train and are really exhausted from the season because of the pressure."

He mentioned that the win on Sunday will help his side qualify for the Champions League, which is currently Liverpool's biggest goal.

"Sometimes you are fighting and fighting and things just aren't happening, as [was the case] this afternoon here," Alisson said.

"Scoring this goal, I am very happy to help them, because we fight a lot together and we have a strong goal to achieve the Champions League.

"We won it once and we know that everything starts with the qualification. I can't be more happy than I am now."
