Snyman among Munster players to sign new deals

RG Snyman has signed a new contract with Munster.

The lock - who is continuing his recovery from a serious knee injury - has signed a deal until the summer of 2024.

The South African has played very little rugby since his arrival in Limerick in 2020, having suffered two cruciate ligament injuries.

He has made just four appearances, having sustained his latest injury in the United Rugby Championship clash against the Scarlets in October.

There had been speculation that he could leave following this season but the province has now secured his services down for another two years.

Meanwhile, props Stephen Archer, Roman Salanoa, Liam O'Connor and hooker Scott Buckley have all put pen to paper on new contracts.

The announcement of today's deals follows the news that 12 other players have committed their futures to the province.

It has been a turbulent time for Munster of late, with head coach Johann Van Graan signalling his intention to depart at the end of the season.

The South African will take up a new role with Bath.

Coach Stephen Larkham is also leaving Thomond Park to return to the Brumbies in Australia.

Some have called for Van Graan to leave his role now, instead of waiting until the end of the season.

But speaking yesterday, he said he has no intention of departing before the summer.

"Everybody at the club knows my heart," he said, "I started here on the 19th of November in 2017 and I've loved every minute of it.

"I've put in my heart and soul together with everybody at Munster in this club. We're a united group.

"The most important thing is people. I don't want the next six months - every week - to be about me.

"Yes, I'm leaving. I've given my reasons.

"I've got incredible respect for Munster Rugby and the Irish system, and I'll continue to do my very best until the last day that I leave here."

Munster take on Castres in France on Friday night in the Heineken Champions Cup.
