England's George Kruis addresses 'asterisk' surrounding cheating Saracens

Saracens lock George Kruis is comfortable with playing for the club after they were found guilty of breaching the Gallagher Premiership’s salary cap.

The European and English champions were docked 35 points and fined £5 million after they were found guilty by Premiership Rugby in November of last year.

While many feel that the breach puts an asterisk besides Saracen’s achievements, Kruis told Off The Ball that he did not feel the same way.

“I personally don’t think so. I think if you look at it and pick it apart in terms of how we got there, in terms of creating a load of academy players and bringing them through. I think there’s a great argument against that.

“I can see people’s points of view. I’m not going to lie, I can see people’s points of views. But it’s something that for me, I’m very comfortable within the situation.

“Look, it is what it is. I’m aware that everyone’s got different opinions on it. From being inside the camp I’ve obviously got a different sort of opinion from a lot of other people.

“There are players from other clubs who are standing up and saying that they have been trying to do things the right way. So everyone’s got different opinions and that’s my view on it,” Kruis said.

Former Saracens and Wales lock Dominic Day was also in studio and felt that other English clubs should come under the same scrutiny Saracens have experienced.

“I personally think there needs to be clarity within the whole league. I don’t think everyone can just point a finger at Saracens. I think every single club needs to be audited and looked at.

“I don’t think we know everything that went on in that meeting in that whole hearing. It’s such a difficult topic to comment on. We can give our opinion, which George [Kruis] has done, I think.

“I’m sure there’ll be more things that come to light and we’ve just got to feel our way through the situation I think,” Day commented.

Saracens now find themselves in a relegation battle and are currently on -7 points at the bottom of the Premiership table.

While relegation is not something the London-based club would normally be worrying about, Kruis explained that the team are well up for the challenge.

“It’s something different. 100% it’s something different. That’s not to say that there’s not a challenge in that.

“I think there’s been an unbelievable buy-in from everyone within the group on that case,” Kruis said.
