Leinster confirm Sexton suffered hamstring injury in Dragons win

Jonathan Sexton will miss Leinster's Guinness PRO14 trip to Benetton.

The out-half sustained what the province are calling a "minor hamstring injury" midway through the first half of last weekend's win over Dragons.

Leinster say Sexton was taken off as a "precaution" and was assessed over the weekend.

It's hoped the 35-year old will be fit in time for Ireland's Six Nations resumption at home to Italy on October 24.

The news regarding another of Leinster's injury withdrawals on Friday appears to be more serious. Max Deegan will undergo further scans this week having sustained a knee injury in the 35-5 win at the RDS.

Ciaran Frawley sustained a facial injury in that match, and will go through the graduated return-to-play protocols this week.

Andrew Porter is another man nursing a hamstring problem. The prop hasn't been ruled out of the trip to Italy just yet, but will be further assessed this week before a final decision is made on his involvement.

Dave Kearney could be involved on Saturday, having increased his training load as he recovers from a hamstring injury. A final decision will be made on the winger later in the week.

And Dan Leavy continues to inch closer to a return from a long-term knee injury. He won't play against Benetton, with Leinster saying he is being "further managed".
