Brian O'Driscoll, Keith Earls and Gordon D'Arcy react to surprise Andy Farrell appointment

Brian O'Driscoll, Keith Earls and Gordon D'Arcy have welcomed Andy Farrell's addition to the Irish rugby backroom team.

The former England assistant coach was confirmed as an addition to Joe Schmidt's staff, with the 40-year-old taking over defensive responsibilities after the Six Nations. 

Keith Earls has revealed that the Irish players weren't informed of the imminent appointment at this week's training camp in Carton House.

 

However, the Munster winger is looking forward to working with Farrell.

"I think it's a great appointment. He's an experienced coach and he's an experienced player as well so it should be good for us and hopefully I get to work with him. I admired him personally as a player as well, so please God I get to be in camps with him," said Earls.
