Henshaw and Parsons scoop Rugby Writers awards

Robbie Henshaw and Beibhinn Parsons have had their superb performances last season recognised by the Rugby Writers of Ireland.

Leinster centre Henshaw has been crowned the Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Men's Player of the Year.

Connacht's Parsons won the Women's Player of the Year accolade.

Henshaw enjoyed a productive year for club and country, featuring prominently for Leinster and Ireland.

He was also involved in the Lions Tour to South Africa last summer.

The Athlone native says the 2020/21 season was among the best of his career so far.

"The 2020/2021 season was a great and, for me personally, it was probably one of the my best seasons for Leinster and Ireland," he said.

"It was nice to get a good run of games together and to top it all off, being selected for the Lions at the end of the season was brilliant.

"I’m really enjoying my rugby at the moment and I’m looking forward to what 2022 holds for both Leinster and Ireland.”

Parsons excelled at club and international level throughout the year.

Though Ireland failed to make the World Cup, Parsons performances on the wing - particularly in the win against Italy - underlined her ability.

“To win this award for a second time is truly incredible so I’d like to say a huge thank you to the Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland for this recognition," Parsons said.

"To be able to represent my country and province and receive an award for doing something I love is an absolute honour.

As a team, we are determined to hit the ground running in 2022 and we’ll continue to put everything into our rugby to get where we want to be.”

Meanwhile, Terry Kennedy was awarded the 7s Player of the Year award, while the Leinster men's side collected the Team of the Year award for the second year in succession.
