Taoiseach plays down possibility of free government vote on 8th amendment bill

The Taoiseach has downplayed the possibility of a free vote for government ministers on an upcoming bill calling for a referendum on the 8th amendment.

The bill put forward by People Before Profit and the Anti Austerity Alliance is due for debate in the Dáil on Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of the annual Fine Gael Presidential Dinner this evening, Mr Kenny said it is his “strong view” that the Citizens’ Assembly – which met for the first time last week – should be allowed to do its work and report back to the Oireachtas.

Latest polls show Trump gaining ground on Clinton

The latest polls show US Presidential candidate Donald Trump has gained ground on Hillary Clinton this week, despite controversy surrounding his sexual conduct.

Ten women have now come forward to accuse the Republican nominee of unwanted sexual advances.

Trump also caused a furore on Wednesday by claiming the election process is rigged against him and suggesting he may not accept the outcome of the vote.

Russia accuses US-led coalition of "war crimes" in Iraq

The Russian Defence Ministry says an airstrike in Iraq by the U.S led coalition has left dozens of civilians dead.

A ministry spokesman said a strike on Friday on a funeral procession in the town of Daquq has "all the signs of a war crime."

The town’s mayor, Amir Khodakram said an airstrike hit a funeral procession in the city centre on Friday, killing 17 people – mainly women and children – and wounding another 50.

Mass hacking may have targeted "rickety" DNS domain name system

Smart devices like webcams and even thermostats may have been used to carry out a large scale cyber-attack, according to online security experts.

Experts believe the attack was aimed at the DNS Domain Name System which acts as an address book for the Internet. 

Dozens of popular US based websites including Twitter, Netflix and Spotify were targeted in Friday's raid.

Champions Cup Round-Up: Munster pick up bonus point win, Ulster edge Exeter

In an emotionally charged match at Thomond Park, Munster thumped an in-form Glasgow side 38-17 to win their first match of the competition.

Despite an early red card for Keith Earls after a dangerous tackle, Munster rode the wave of emotion coming from the crowd and powered to an impressive bonus point win.

Tyler Bleyeendal scored and converted the first try with Jaco Taute, Simon Zebo and Rory Scannell also on the score sheet. Munster were also awarded a penalty try after demolishing the Glasgow scrum in the second half.
