"It was Munster of old" - Eddie O'Sullivan on the province's ability to grind out big results in Europe once again

Eddie O'Sullivan believes the manner of Munster's victory at Glasgow Warriors in the European Champions Cup on Saturday was reminiscent of the province's finest days.

Munster defeated their Pro 12 rivals to seal top spot in Pool 1 with a match to spare, which will come this weekend when they host bottom side Racing 92.

It was a tight game at Scotstoun as Munster dug deep to earn a narrow but crucial win.

"You have to give Munster credit for digging out the win. It was Munster of old. They had to work for every yard they won," said ex-Ireland head coach O'Sullivan on Off The Ball.

"But Glasgow had a chance to steal it and they blew it."

O'Sullivan also emphasised the "value" of getting such a result away from home for Munster.

"It creates that sort of a buzz in the camp that something's on. You don't want to overthink it but Munster are feeling at the moment, 'You know what? It doesn't matter who we play now. We can get somebody and on the day we can beat them. They might be better than us on paper' but Munster are in a place now where they are not playing the game on paper anymore.

"They are in a good spot and if they get the home draw, they're not going to back against them in Thomond Park in a quarter final - and that home draw is locked down unless the wheels completely come off."

On other talking points from the game, O'Sullivan felt the referee should have given more protection to Ireland international scrum half Conor Murray who was often the focus of Glasgow's attempts to disrupt Munster's attacks.

"I thought the referee could have done a better job protecting him. A word with Glasgow would have solved it but he didn't bother," he said.

O'Sullivan also discussed the issue surrounding Head Injury Assessments in the wake of recent events, including Murray against Glasgow.
