The speculated move of Ben Healy to the Glasgow Warriors is now looking unlikely after the Scottish side confirmed the signing of outhalf Duncan Weir.

The Munster academy star had come onto the radar of the Warriors and Scotland - for whom he is internationally qualified - after a sensational start to his professional career, with the club offering him a contract for next season.

And while Munster are yet to confirm a new deal for the 21-year-old, the province's fans will sleep a little easier in the knowledge that his main suitors have committed to a long-term contract with an international number 10.

Glasgow native Duncan Weir began his professional career with the Warriors in 2010, before switching to Edinburgh in 2016, and spending the last three seasons at Worcester in the Premiership.

The 29-year-old has agreed a long-term contract to return to Scotstoun from the beginning of next season.

"It’s massively exciting for me to be coming back to Glasgow Warriors," Weir said.

"Glasgow is my home and Glasgow Warriors is my boyhood club where it all began. It’s always a massive honour pulling on the jersey and I’m really looking forward to doing it again.

"I’ve had some great chats with Danny (Wilson). I’m excited to play a part in Glasgow’s future and helping drive the club on to winning more silverware and competing at the top end of the table which we are both hugely passionate about.

"For my family, it’s going to be amazing just to being so close to home and the thought of my children growing up in Glasgow was hugely appealing to us when we were weighing up our options.

"I can’t wait to get back out in front of the crowds at Scotstoun. You can’t beat the atmosphere of a game under the Friday night lights," he added.
