Anthony Foley honoured at Limerick Person of the Year Awards

Former Munster coach and player Anthony Foley has been honoured with a lifetime achievement at the Limerick Person of the Year Awards.

Foley passed away suddenly in Paris in October 2016 before the province was due to play a European Rugby Champions Cup fixture against Racing 92.

His wife Olive collected the lifetime achievement award which marks his "massive contribution to Munster and Irish rugby" this afternoon.

Olive Foley said:  "I’m pretty sure Anthony would be recoiling with the attention here today. He was very proud of his association with Limerick and from a sporting perspective will always be associated with Munster and Shannon, with many of his greatest rugby moments here in Limerick.

"We know that everyone here misses him and it goes without saying that we do. But we really appreciate the fact that he is thought of and remembered so fondly, including with this Lifetime Achievement Award."

The former Ireland great was born in Limerick on October 30th 1973 and played club rugby with the Munster county's Shannon Rugby Football Club, winning the All-Ireland League on five occasions between 1995 and 2002.
