Eddie Jones has labelled Manu Tuilagi’s late red card for a high tackle on George North as ‘absolute rubbish’.

England won the Six Nations clash against Wales by 33 points to 30 in a game with more than one controversial incident.

Wales scored two late tries after the rec card incident, with England being reduced to 13 men as Ellis Genge was shown a yellow card only minutes before.

Despite the win, the England head coach was extremely unhappy with the Leicester Tiger being shown red with six minutes remaining.

“I just find it bizarre. I usually don’t comment, but I don’t see how you can tackle a guy.

“You might as well just let him go, because how else are you supposed to tackle him? This bit about where your arms are – what a load of rubbish,” Jones said.

Jones had promised to not to criticise referees in recent times but the Australian felt compelled to comment on referee Ben O’Keefe’s decision.

“Manu was trying to kill the tackle. That’s the only thing he was trying to do. It’s absolute rubbish. I’m sorry, I’ve broken my rule.

“I just think there’s no common sense applied in that situation. Clearly the guy is falling, there’s a good chop tackle and Manu is coming over the top to kill the tackle.

“He’s doing everything that he’s supposed to be doing and he gets red-carded. Like, come on,” Jones said.
While England conceded two late tries, Jones stated he was not disappointed with his team as the odds were against them.

“When you’ve got a three-man advantage you’re going to do some damage to the [opposition] team. That’s what happened,” Jones commented.

Jones' side are now back in contention in the Six Nations but won't get the chance to compete for the title any time soon, due to their game with Italy being postponed over coronavirus fears.
