City must keep Liverpool's full-backs pinned in their own half | Richard Dunne

Richard Dunne has said Manchester City must keep Liverpool's full-backs pinned into their own half if they are to win at Anfield on Sunday.

The former Manchester City captain was on Friday's OTB AM and highlighted how the job Man City's two wingers do against Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will have a big effect on the match's result,

"I don't think Man City can sit back with the defensive problems they have got. It would be a mistake to sit back and try and hold out, they have got to try and attack," Dunne told OTB AM.

"Regardless of defensively, I think they still carry a massive threat going forward and they are more than capable of hitting Liverpool on the counter-attack or even dominating the game.

"They are a very talented squad even with the injuries and suspensions and whoever they are missing."

Previously when Manchester City have come up against wing-backs they have employed the attacking threat of their wingers to pin the opposing players deep into their own half, something Dunne says his former side must do against Liverpool this weekend.

"With Liverpool, their full-backs are almost complete wing-backs, they try and get forward all the time.

"I think if [Raheem] Sterling and [Riyadh] Mahrez – or whoever it may be – can play higher up the field it will limit Robertson and Alexander-Arnold's attacking threat.

"So I think they will try to play with the three up front and keep them wide and keep them high and then dominate in the midfield area.

"I think tactically that's important. It will be a very tactical game because both sides know how good the other team is and are wary of the threats from the other side

"As good as Liverpool have been they haven't kept a clean sheet in seven or eight games now so they will have the doubts in their mind about just overloading teams with attack."
