"I was delighted to finally get there" | Liz Lalor on breaking point-to-point record

The Clonmel native broke the record for most Point-to-Point wins for a female jockey.

Liz Lalor's career began back in 1999 when she won her first points in Kinsale. Since then, she has won 110 point-to-point races, a new record for a female jockey.

A 100th career winner came in the 2018/19 campaign following the birth of her first daughter Alex, whilst in her role as a trainer, Lalor saddled a first double on the track at Clonmel in 2007.

The victory of On The Sod at Moig South in November 2021, saw Liz equal Helen Bryce-Smith's all-time tally of 109 winners by a female jockey.

A win on Read to Return brought her above Bryce-Smith and cemented her as the most successful female point-to-point racer of all time.

"I'm kind of picking and choosing [since the 109th win], so it took a bit longer to get to it.", Lalor told Friday Night Racing.

"I was delighted to get there eventually anyway."

While Lalor says she has been trying to choose better horses lately, it can't be argued that these wins have come easy.

Lalor gave birth to her daughter Alex three years ago, five weeks later she was back on the saddle and riding another point-to-point winner.

"It was brilliant. Normally the Nenagh Point-to-Point is would be the end of January, but it was pushed back until the end of February so that's why I manager to make it, because she was born on the 10th of January."
