Price and Anderson to meet in PDC World Darts Championship final

First-time finalist Gerwyn Price and two-time winner Gary Anderson are set to meet in tonight's PDC World Darts Championship final.

The pair came through their semi-finals against Stephen Bunting and Dave Chisnall respectively to set up an interesting final pairing at the Alexandra Palace.

Price is the first Welsh man to reach the PDC final, and if he were to claim the Sid Waddell Trophy, he would also take the number one world ranking.

He showed rea grit to overcome the challenge of Bunting in a very entertaining semi-final on Saturday, eventually winning out by 6 sets to 4, having trailed 3-1 at one stage.

A match of the highest quality, it featured a tournament-record 13 three-figure finishes.

"To be up against it and Stephen taking out everything in that game, it's the best I've played in this tournament and I needed to," Price told Sky Sports.

"He punished me whenever I slipped up. I was 3-1 down and I was kicking myself, I was 4-3 down and kicking myself, but I dug in there.

"I think in two sets I was up two legs in both sets and I bombed them, but that's the class Stephen showed.

"It was a tough tough game."

He will need to be at his best again in this evening's showpiece against Gary Anderson, who has defied the odds to reach the decider.

'The Flying Scotsman' was only seeded 13th comingΒ into this year's event but has shown some good form.

Last night, he beat Dave Chisnall - who hammered Michael Van Gerwen 5-0 in their semi-final battle - 6-3 to earn another final appearance, and a bid for a third title.

Despite making another final, Anderson was not best pleased with his performance.

"It felt atrocious," Anderson told Sky Sports after the match.

"Even Dave was up there saying what's going on."

"The last two years, I've come here with no expectations whatsoever, I might have pinched it all the way to the final but we've got here, that's not bad."

The final at Alexandra Palace is given an added intrigue as it is the first major final meeting between the pair since 2018, when they met in the Grand Slam of Darts.

While Price won on that occasion, an independent panel later found he engaged in gamesmanship during the match which featured heated exchanges.
