Sinead O'Carroll: You can see comparisons between Joe Schmidt and Jim Gavin

Mick O'Keefe and Sinead O'Carroll were the guests for Off the Ball's Sunday Paper Review.

Simon Zebo's decision to move abroad at the end of the season and his subsequent omission from the Ireland squad was one of the talking points on the show.

"I really enjoyed Neil Francis' piece on Zebo because there was an emotional bend to it," O'Carroll told Joe Molloy. "We get to the end of it and he's talking about how over the next four years there's going to be 65 Irish test matches and for each one of those 65, he's kind of telling Zebo 'you're going to have a bit of regret'

"Fair enough, you'll have money but you're going to have regret with each of these (games). What I was looking at and he's talking about Joe Schmidt and letting Zebo go and he's not indispensable so once you're not indispensable really - it's easier.

"With Joe Schmidt, I think there's often comparisons with the Jim Gavin thing and how they are building a team and it really doesn't matter who is in it because it's their team. It's kind of like I can do this by numbers and I can get the best out of whatever 15/20/35 people are in front of me, kind of like Jim Gavin with Connolly this year.

"Most people would think you're insane when you don't use Connolly when he's available to you but Jim Gavin knows his team and what he needs to do and Schmidt is 'well Zebo, if you're not going to be available in the way I need my team to be available - you lose out," she added.
