Ireland reach World Cup semis | "It's a dream come true"

Ireland's hockey team overcame a penalty shootout to earn a semi-final spot against Spain in London on Saturday.

Graham Shaw's side defeated their Indian counterparts again by 3-1 in the shootout after a very close game that ended 0-0 at full time.

Ireland coach Shaw was near speechless after his side's victory. The former Glenanne player and Dubliner spoke to BT Sport post match.

"Incredible, incredible. I'm just so proud. I mean to come in hear as the second lowest ranked team - 16th in the World. It's a dream come through.

Ireland upset their Indian counterparts earlier in the group stage of the competition.

Chloe Watkins was the heroine as she scored Ireland's final penalty to book a spot in Saturday's semi-final against the Spaniards. Shaw is just relieved his side got over the line and progressed to the last four.

"Sometimes these games aren't about performing, even though we all talk about it as coaches. It's about digging deep and having the discipline to defend when you need to defend, and try and find that bit of quality in the final third,' Shaw told BT Sport.
