Eric Donovan's got no fear of Kid Galahad or Josh Warrington

Eric Donovan says he wouldn't fear a match-up with Kid Galahad or Josh Warrington.

The Athy boxer went 10-0 after beating Moises Mojica on his UK pro debut at the iconic York Hall.

And his confidence is such that he would relish a bout against the calibre of Kid Galahad and Warrington.

"The fights are becoming thick and fast and the big guys are coming close as well," he told Off The Ball.

"The kind of confidence and belief I have in myself, I look at Kid Galahad vs Josh Warrington the other night in the world title fight.

"They're my weight category. I don't see anything from either of those that would bother me or not want me to step into the ring and fight either of them.

"That's the confidence I have in myself. I believe I'm an elite level fighter."

European Games

He also revealed that the possibility of a vacant European title bout had come up for the same night.

"The purse was brutal, the conditions and everything was brutal," he said.

"But I would've been going into his backyard and I would've got the chance to fight for a European title on his show, with all the odds stacked against me. I said, 'Yes' and they pulled out if it."

Donovan also discussed the revived fortunes of Irish amateur boxing at the European Games this week.

"It's just brilliant news really for Irish boxing and considering the age of that group as well," he said.

"A lot of them are very young. Regan Buckley and Michael Nevin are probably boxing in their first ever major championships.

"And here they are on the podium. They have the chance to change the colour [of the medal] as well and of course, less than a year out from the Olympic qualifiers.

"So it's brilliant, considering there's been a lot of negative news surrounding Olympic boxing."

He also added that "it's a testament" to the team running the team in the wake of some difficult years for amateur boxing in Ireland.
