Andy Moran: Dublin dominance is the GAA's problem not Dublin's

While Dublin's dominance in football is an ongoing issue for the GAA, anger at Dublin themselves is misplaced, according to former Mayo footballer Andy Moran.

Moran was speaking to OTB Sports' John Duggan following Mayo's convincing victory over Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park, and noted that Dublin can't be criticised for their success.

"None of this should be aimed towards Dublin," Moran explained.

"Dublin absolutely nail everything, so if Dublin get a euro and they use it wisely fair play to them. They've done really well and done the coaching well."

Rather, anger with the current state of the GAA, should be harnessed to improving the state of the sport, Moran explained.

"There is a problem; Dublin are going for six in a row, their ladies are going for four in a row, the hurlers have got better. There is an issue there and it's just the best way to fix that issue.

Acknowledging that Dublin fans were within their rights to defend their team, Moran highlighted his belief that other counties need to be supported to get to Dublin's level.

"There is a greater issue here and the greater issue is other teams need to go and rebuild.

"Dublin are already five, six, seven years, maybe even 10 years ahead in that process. So it's how they even up that process. How they even up that playing field.

"In soccer, there is financial fair play, the drafts in America, the way they do it in the AFL. People try to even things out all the time and the GAA just need to get better at evening that out.

"That's the issue, it's not aimed at Dublin so we need a reasoned debate on it."

While the solution won't be found easily, Moran concluded that it's important the status quo is viewed as a wider GAA issue and not a Dublin GAA one.
