Lampard slams media coverage of Chelsea, dismisses sack speculation

Frank Lampard has dismissed speculation linking him with the sack at Chelsea.

A run of five defeats in eight games leaves Chelsea languishing in 8th position in the Premier League, and eleven points off the summit.

It's led to talk that Lampard - in his second season in charge at Stamford Bridge - is on borrowed time with owner Roman Abramovich.

Names like Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann and Massimiliano Allegri have been bandied about as Chelsea's slide down the table continues.

But ahead of Sunday's FA Cup 4th round visit of Luton Town, Lampard insists he's not troubled by speculation over his future.

"I don't listen to it," said the 42-year old.

"It's only everywhere if you want to scroll through social media or something, but I don't do that.

"I'm not stupid, I know the pressures that come with managing a top football club, but I just do my job, it doesn't matter to me."

However, Lampard has taken issue with how his team are covered by some publications.

Answering a question regarding Petr Cech's influence around the squad and general player confidence, the manager shot back, "Well to be fair, I think their confidence would be shot if they were to read some of your pieces that you write at the minute because some of the confirmation bias that you reflect on games with, it’s like social media pundits to try and get a reaction in a negative way.

"I read the pieces when we were doing well and they go both ways so I think for a journalist to be objective would be a start.

"In terms of Pete, his experience is vital, we need to use it. Even in years that we were successful and winning trophies there were tough moments.

"We had some really solid squads in those years and we know what it takes to turn the corner so we will work together on that."
