Klopp's Liverpool win sixth European title in Madrid

Jurgen Klopp won his first Liverpool title as the 'Scousers' claimed club football's greatest prize for a sixth time with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspurs.

The first-half opened up to a frantic start as Mo Salah  scored from the spot after a hand ball from Moussa Sissoko on the 24 second mark. Salah blasted the spot kick past a helpless Hugo Lloris.

Spur's failed to take advantage of their possession and failed to register a shot on target until the 71st minute. A largely forgettable first-half  in Madrid as both sides failed to control the ball for sustained periods of time.

Spurs dominated most of the second period with chances from Moura, Alli and Son. It was a gallant second-half display from the spirited London club but it ended in defeat after Divock Origi sealed the game in the 87th minute to all but end the tie.

Liverpool's substitute belted home the winner with a neatly placed shot into the Spurs net after the Londoner's failed to clear their lines.

A jubilant Jurgen Klopp spoke with BT Sport after claiming the title. The Liverpool coach praised his players determined nature after earning his first title as coach of the Premier League runners-up.

“I’m so happy for the boys, I’m so happy for all of these people, I’m so happy for my family. Did you ever see a team like this? Fighting with no fuel in the tank any more."

Mauricio Pochettino's wait for major honours goes on as Liverpool claim history in Athletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
