As one of the most successful jockeys of all time, Johnny Murtagh knows what sets the truly remarkable sportspeople apart from the rest of the contenders.
Murtagh rode 106 Group 1 winners and over 3,000 winners respectively during his career and, as a trainer, he enjoyed his best ever season last year with 33 winners.
Murtagh was a guest on a recent episode of Friday Night Racing and he name-checked New England Patriots' Quarterback Tom Brady, and basketball legend Michael Jordan, as two of the all time greats and people who have inspired him.
"I'm a huge fan of sports and I love, there recently, the American Football. Tom Brady, what he's done at 40, 41, 42.
"The documentary on him and what he does before preseason. He's getting ready for preseason - brings all the receivers to his house which is not a bad way to spend a weekend. Not a bad place to spend a weekend at Tom Brady's house and he has them all practicing the drills.
"And, I think that's what you have to do if you want to be the best in the world - you have to put in the little extra bit," he added.
Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, Ron Harper and Toni Kukoc"My idol would have been Michael Jordan - the greatest basketball player of all time. He wanted the ball when the game was on the line. If there was two seconds left, he wanted the ball. He's not getting paid millions of pounds and then 'ah, it came to him on his wrong foot' - you shouldn't have a wrong foot.
"So, he wanted the ball when the game was on the line and that's what great players do. So, do you want to be good or do you want to be great - I wanted to be great," he added.
