'I'll play as long as my body is fit and healthy' | Seamus Callanan

While back injuries are an issue, Seamus Callanan has confirmed that he will continue playing hurling for as long as possible.

The Tipperary captain was speaking to Off The Ball and spoke about his future in the game he loves.

“I’m kind of just taking it year by year. Because look, the back will give me trouble at any stage and you might have to end it early too.

“But at the moment I feel good and I’ll just concentrate on this year and if there is to be more years - I’ll judge it at the end of this year. I’ll probably have a good think about it at the end of this year.

“I enjoy it. I love it. But as long as my body is fit and healthy, I'd like to be able to stay doing it.

The Drom-Inch player has had back issues in the past which have inhibited his playing career and is keen not to exacerbate the issue any further.

“At the end of every year you kind of analyse where you’re at in terms of - Did you hit your goals this year? How does your body feel?

“So you kind of do that every year, regardless of what your age is. You think about it and you analyse,” Callanan commented.

The Tipp hurler revealed he pays a lot of attention to his back issue and that he looks after his body much more than he did at the start of his career.

“Look, it’s always a little bit sore so it takes maintenance throughout the year. So you do a lot of work on it outside of training and outside of matches.

“So there is an awful lot more preparation now that I have the back injury than I would have had before that.

“So there are a lot more hours put into having your body right. But look, I suppose I’m enjoying playing so it’s all good,” Callanan said.
