Speaking on Tuesday's OTB AM, Former Offaly hurling legend Daithi Regan said Michael Donoghue will be sought after if he returns to management in the future. 

Regan said he was initially surprised by the news that he was leaving his post as Galway senior hurling manager

“The vibe out of the place was that he was going to stay.

“Of course he didn’t come out and publicly deny that he wasn’t going to stay after the championship exit.

“You know talking to any of the lads down there (Galway), Michael Donoghue brought them an All-Ireland final, brought them back as defending champions against an outstanding Limerick side," he said.

Regan thinks GAA managers are under a lot of pressure nowadays to make a decision on their futures.

Second-guessing 

“I always think that at this time of the year people are really quick to question managers on if they're staying or going.

“Really an element of distance should be created to allow people to take stock and decide.

“We shouldn’t second-guess Michael Donoghue or any other manager that takes a decision like this.

"You’ve got to do what’s right for you and your family," the Birr man said.

If Donoghue does decide to come back to management at some point, Regan thinks Donoghue would be in high demand.

“Michael Donoghue has been involved previously with Tipperary, so his stock is certainly high.

“In relation to Galway, I think the door is absolutely open as well.

“I think his stock is certainly of a high enough standard and regard, that if and when a managerial position comes up in Galway, why not?

“His legacy is there, he’s won an All-Ireland title not many have done it since 1988," Regan stated.
