Daithi Regan on Davy Fitz | "He loves his players, and they love him"

Daithi Regan praised the relationship between Davy Fitzgerald and Wexford  after their victory in Today's Leinster final.

Wexford's "Yellow Bellies" claimed their first provincial title in 15 years seeing off Kilkenny by 1-23 to 0-23 in Croke Park.

Regan joined joined today's Off the Ball after Wexford's victory, he says it's a special day for Davy Fitz' men after years of heartache for the county.

"There's a great history between these, the balance of course is heavily in Kilkenny's favour but today is all about Wexford,' Regan told Joe Molloy.

The Wexford manager was jubilant after the full-time whistle in Croke Park, and Regan says the former Clare manager deserves huge credit for guiding them to an All-Ireland semi-final.

"Davy Fitzgerald deserves immense credit, more success for him. Nobody thought Clare would win an All-Ireland final back in 2013 but he did -  and he made sure his player's believed it, and he had such a role in getting them there.

"I saw it a lot over the year with Brian Cody, and you have to love your players.  You can see it, he's not a detached manager. He loves his players and they love him,' said the former player.

He believes the win and more importantly the silverware will create an unbreakable bond between Fitzgerald and his players.

"Now that the silverware is there, it creates that bond,' the Birr man told OTB.

The Offaly man said the player's will realise what they've done in the dressing room, he believes it will be a joyous and emotional time for the team.

"It'll be a special time in the dressing room after because it's them and they can look at one another, and they'll know what they've done. It's a magical feeling, I'm so happy for them."
