'We don't need social media to know what went right or wrong' | Kingston addresses online trolls

Cork manager Kieran Kingston praised his players, particularly the younger members of his squad, following their six-point win over Dublin in the All-Ireland Hurling qualifiers on Saturday evening.

1-25 to 0-22 was the final score at Semple Stadium and the result means Cork go into Monday morning's draw while Dublin's year comes to a close.

Kingston was impressed with his side's showing after a difficult defeat to Waterford in the Munster Championship semi-final last week.

"It was a hugely improved performance, it was needed, badly needed.

"We were very disappointed and hurt after last Saturday, that's not to take anything from Waterford because I think they deserved their win on the day and I think the scoreline flattered us on the day.

"You could see during the week there was a bit of a bite there but the important thing now is we get a level of consistency, there's no point being bad last week and  good this week unless we can continue it."

Cork came in for some harsh criticism after their loss last week, especially online.

Speaking to OTB Sports at full-time Kingston was keen to point out that online narratives do not affect their preperations.

"We don't do anything online.

"I'm certainly not on any social media, I've no interest in people putting things online under pseudo names, as a rule, we stay off all that kind of stuff.

"We don't read papers, we just try to focus on ourselves.

"We don't need to go on any of these [social media accounts] to know what went right or wrong, we know ourselves as a group when things go well or they don't."

Kingston made five changes to his side after the defeat to Waterford last weekend.

These included a number of championship debuts with Declan Dalton finding the back of the net for the Rebels in the first-half.

"I'm delighted with the lads, Deckie [Declan Dalton] making his championship debut tonight, Jack O'Connor making his debut, and Robbie coming back after nine months.

"They made a huge impact on the team. We had five changes and that worked which is great.

"The lads who came in put in a huge effort and worked really hard which is all we can ask of them."

Cork now go into the draw for Round 2 of the qualifiers while Dublin's year is finished.

Kingston stressed they must now move on and prepare for a quick turnaround.

"The key thing now is recovery.

"It's a young panel and they'll need to recover properly over the next few days and be good to go for training on Wednesday night and be back at it again next weekend, whoever it's against."
