Harry Kewell takes over at Oldham

Harry Kewell has become the sixth Oldham Athletic manager in under two years.

The former Leeds and Liverpool winger has signed a one-year deal at the League Two club, with an option to extend.

Kewell, who has previously managed at Crawley and Notts County, succeeds Dino Maamria, who was sacked late on Friday night.

The 41-year-old made just short of 400 appearances throughout his plying career as well as being seen as an important figure at international level.

The Australian then began his coaching career in 2015 when he became an under-23's coach at Watford.

The Latics finished 19th of 24 teams in League Two this season with nine wins in 37 games.

Kewell has called for stability at Boundry Park.

In a statement released by the club on Saturday afternoon, he said,

"I'm excited about the project and don't get me wrong it's going to take time.

"Because the one thing I think this club does need is stability and if we can get that, then we can start to grow things.

"We've got to get back to the basics and we're having a 'clean slate' here now and I think the fans, myself, the owner, everybody wants to start seeing this club progress because we all believe that's there's a big potential."
