Shane Lowry to wear the 20x20 logo for Irish Open

Irish golfer Shane Lowry will wear the 20x20 logo instead of his normal Immedis logo when he takes to the tee for the Irish Open on Thursday.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Lowry's regular sponsor, Immedis stated they are proud to support the 20x20 movement and to help create a cultural shift in our perception of girls and women in sport.

Lowry had said that he hopes his daughter will be able to have the same level of enjoyment from sport, both playing it and watching it, as he has had.

“Sport has always been something special for me," Lowry said. "Not only has it given me a livelihood, but it has also given me tremendous pleasure both when playing it and watching it.

"No matter what my daughter, Iris does in the future, I hope that she gets the same enjoyment from sport that I have.

"I want her to have role models, and I want more than anything for her to have the same opportunities that boys would have”.

Lowry's support for the movement highlights the 20x20 message to #ThinkItAskIt in order to provoke more progress for women’s sport.

This has been echoed in 20x20's recent release of their podcast: Choose What's Next.

The nationwide call to arms draws attention to the choice we all have in what happens next and how, by all asking questions, of society and of ourselves, we can change the future for women in sport in Ireland.

Lowry is one of many supporters

In the statement, CEO of Immedis Ruairi Kelleher expressed his support for the 20x20 movement and women in sport.

“I am extremely proud to be able to lend our voice to the 20x20 movement and I hope it will raise awareness of this incredibly important movement," Kelleher said.

"As a father of a daughter it is something I am extremely passionate about and while our action is very simple, we hope that the impact can leave a significant legacy”.

Sarah Colgan, one of the founders of 20x20 and CEO of Along Came A Spider mentioned the purpose of 20x20, and that it is not only for women.

“20x20 isn’t women for women, it’s all of society for all of society," Colgan said.

"It’s so important to have top male athletes support women in sport. Proud to see Shane wear the 20x20 logo at The Irish Open 2020 and proud to have Immedis as a partner.”

Earlier this year Immedis announced 20x20 Ambassador Stephanie Meadow as a Global Brand Ambassador.
