Colin Kaepernick remains jobless despite Seahawks interest

Colin Kaepernick remains without an NFL team ahead of the 2017 season.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback became a free agent at the end of last season. Despite his pedigree, which includes a Super Bowl appearance only four years ago, the 29-year-old is struggling to be picked up by a team.

Last season, Kaepernick made global headlines, when he knelt throughout the season during the American national anthem before each game. He started the season as a reserve, but played the final 12 games of the season, starting 11 of them.

The quarterback, has been constantly overlooked  by teams in recent months as they add to their rosters, but it looked like he was set to join the Seattle Seahawks. Divisional rivals to the 49ers, Kaepernick has played against the team regularly throughout his career.

On Sunday, it was announced that the Seahawks decided to sign former Broncos quarterback Austin Davis. Since joining the NFL in 2012, Davis has started only ten games, one less than Kaepernick did last season.

"He's a starter in this league", Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said last weekend. "We have a starter. I cant imagine someone in this league wont give him a chance to play".

While reports of wage demands were initially reported as the reason for him and the Seahawks not coming to terms, further reports claim wages were never an issue between the two sides.

Was Kaepernick's "starter" role an easy way for the Seahawks to pass on the 29-year-old. As the season gets closer and Kaepernick remains without a team, the fact he remains jobless becomes more and more baffling by the day.
