Franck Ribery joins Fiorentina on free transfer

Fiorentina have announced the signing of former France winger Franck Ribery, after his release by Bayern Munich.

The Florentine side made the announcement this afternoon, confirming Ribery's signature after a twelve year stint with the Bavarians.

A press conference is scheduled for Thursday evening to present their new signings to assembled media, while fans will be allowed into Stadio Artemio Franchi for their first look at Ribery as a Fiorentina player.

The move comes after a summer of great upheaval at Bayern, where both Ribery and clubmate Arjen Robben were allowed to leave the club.

Meanwhile, Bayern have confirmed the signings of both Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic as ostensible replacements for Ribery and Robben, both signing initally on loan from Barcelona and Internazionale respectively.

The Frenchman arrives after a trophy-laden career with Bayern, winning nine Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and the Champions League during his time there.

Fiorentina fans will be hoping that the signing signals a change in fortune for their side, with a sixteenth place finish in Serie A still looming large in the collective mind.
