"We'll have to take it on the chin" - Donal Óg Cusack reacts to Clare's defeat to Waterford

Waterford exacted sweet revenge on Clare to book their spot in the Munster SHC final, racking up a seven point victory over their rivals.

It was the third time in five weeks that the sides had met following the league final and subsequent league final replay meant the side were familiar with each other during yesterday's game.

Speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan after yesterday's game, Clare selector Donal Óg Cusack refused to take anything away from Waterford's performance.

"It's all about who turns up on the day," he said, "Today is absolutely Waterford's day. It's their victory, they were the better team on the day. That's it.

"We conceded a lot of frees and a goal that we wouldn't be happy with, but these things happen. It's the Championship and if you look at the three games, they've been totally different and got three different results."

Despite the early exit from the Munster, Clare will still compete in the All-Ireland Championship through the back-door system.

"Well we've got no choice now, I don't think anyone coming up here today wanted to go down that route. The Munster final is a cherished day and it's a cherished medal in Irish sport and in a hurling man's point of view. That was definitely our aim today so we'll just have to take this on the chin."
