Three men put forward to succeed Marie Hickey as LGFA President

The three candidates for the President-elect of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association are all men.

Sligo duo Micheál Naughton and Liam McDonagh have been shortlisted alongside Dublin's Dominic Leech.

The successor to Marie Hickey will be elected at next weekend's Congress in Galway, in the process becoming the 13th President of the LGFA.

Naughton's been based in Donegal for over two decades, and in separate stints in charge of the county's Ladies football team he led them to the 2010 TG4 All Ireland Intermediate title, and the 2016 Lidl National League Division 2 crown.

McDonagh refereed a pair of All Ireland finals (2003 Junior and 2007 Intermediate) and has served in several administrative roles including the Connacht LGFA Presidency from 2017 to the present year.

Meanwhile, Leech is the current Leinster LGFA President and also managed the 2011 TG4 All Ireland Junior Championship-winning Wicklow side.

Delegates attending the Lough Rea Hotel will hear from all three Presidential hopefuls on Saturday afternoon, before the votes will be cast, and the President-elect revealed.

The winning candidate will serve a four-year term.

Hickey was the fourth female President of the LGFA following Mary Wheatley (1988-1991), Helen O'Rourke (1994-1997) and two-termer Geraldine Giles (2003-2009).
