“There’s definitely enough talent” - Paul Geaney on Kerry’s All-Ireland chances

While much of the build up to the GAA football Championships will focus on Dublin’s drive for five All-Ireland’s in a row, Paul Geaney believes that Kerry have enough talent to usurp the Dubs’ ambitions.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Geaney described the Kerry panel as a “work in progress” but also implied that the youthful panel have the potential and ability to win an All-Ireland.

“It’s a young team. But that doesn’t mean we can’t [win the All-Ireland]”, the 28 year-old corner forward said.

“We’ll try 100 per cent. We’ll give it everything. There’s a lot of variable factors in it but there’s definitely enough talent there to do it and the League showed that - up until the final maybe.

“We were beaten twice by Mayo in the league, an experienced team. And we were beaten by them in the final.

“But that's probably more to do with where we were in the final. Mayo overran us in the last two quarters of the game they outscored us and we found it hard ro get scores on the board.

“A lot of that is just fitness and that will have been rectified because of the bulk of work we have done there in the last few weeks.”

However, Geaney noted that there is a long way to go until the final stages of the Championship and it is hard to weigh up Kerry’s true chances before the Championship has truly began.

“If everything goes right there is definitely enough talent there but we’re just not far enough down the road to have a complete sense. You just don’t know what could happen and how form is going to go. But I would always be confident.”

“We are going to give it absolutely everything and if we don’t [win it] it's not for want of trying.”

Kerry will take on Clare in the Munster Senior Football Championship Semi-Final on Saturday June 1st.
