Mickey Conroy dropped from Mayo squad ahead of the Connacht championship

Mayo forward Mickey Conroy has been the biggest casualty from the Mayo squad as Stephen Rochford's side prepare to begin their Connacht Championship campaign later this month against London.

According to the Irish Independent, the Davitts star has been let go from the squad along with Mark Ronaldson, Mickey Sweeney and Shane McHale.

Rochford has cut his squad after finishing fifth in the Allianz League Division 1 last month. The team began the campaign with three consecutive losses before winning three of their final four to stay in the top-tier.

The forward suffered a shoulder injury last August in club action and missed out on featuring in the All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin.

Conroy made his debut for Mayo in 2004 and played for the country in three All-Ireland finals in 2004, 2012 and 2013. He started the 2012 final against Donegal, scoring a point as the team lost by four points.

Mayo are looking for their sixth Connacht title in a row this summer. Including their current run, they have won the Connacht title five-times in a row, with the first happening between 1906 and 1910.
