“I want to have some sort of quality of life" - Lee Keegan on life after GAA and injury comeback

Lee Keegan has talked about the importance of life after GAA, in conversation with Off the Ball’s Kevin Kilbane.

The Mayo right half back underwent hip surgery in November, and hopes to return to county action for the penultimate game of the Allianz National League season. But his period on the sidelines has given him time to think about life after the sport.

“It is important to think about stuff outside GAA because it won’t be there forever, and you have to think about providing for yourself work-wise and you want to be looking at having a family. I want to have some quality of life when I do finish.”

“I want to have some sort of quality of life. I want to be able to go to games with friends and family, enjoy it, and not go looking to get a hip replacement .”

On his rehabilitation, Keegan was positive: “I had my three month referral there a couple of weeks ago and got the all-clear in terms of getting back running. The mobility and flexibility within the hip joints is very good.”

“Thankfully, I’m back running on the pitch for the last week or two, all pain-free and all positive, so just looking to get back into training and burn the lungs up a bit now!”
