Tipperary set for meeting with Kerry in Munster football final

Tipperary produced a superb performance this afternoon to beat Cork in the football Championships in 72, as they ran out two point winners at Semple Stadium.

They'll now meet Kerry who were comfortable winners over Clare in Killarney.

"Great credit to Tipp, we didn't underestimate them coming up here this evening," said Cork boss Peadar Healy said after the game, "We conceded too much. We've been trying to rectify that all year.

"If you had been told that you were going to score 2-16 here, you would have thought that would get you over the line but unfortunately it didn't. We had too many turnovers in the first half and eight wides.

"We had the opportunities, when we had eight wides and Tipperary had none. It might have been a different story if we had kicked only four wides or five wides.

"[We made changes at half time] because we were playing against the wind and we wanted to bring a bit of energy and to be fair the U21 players that we brought in, they played with great energy to the attack at the time."

The momentus result was echoed by the players directly after the game, none more so than Tipperary midfielder, George Hannigan.

"I don't mind what happened in 1944, it's the first time that it's happened to me," he said.

"I've been around a long time and it's been a long time coming. There's been loads of close games and 'nearly theres' and it finally came. Now we have a Munster final to concentrate on. But we'll enjoy the moment now and get back to work for a few weeks time.

"We did nearly throw it away in the last 20 minutes, we just couldn't get our hands on the ball. Cork have a great culture and a great tradition, they were always going to com for us but we were prepared for that. We showed great character because they had the momentum at the end."
