Craughwell and Sarsfields have to do it all again as county final ends in stalemate

Craughwell..... 0-12     Sarsfields... 0-12

After leveling on six occasions in Athenry, Craughwell took the lead for the first time with just minutes remaining. But Sarsfield's Niall Morrissey, who finished his shift with eight points to his credit, hit back with one final free to bring the sides back to level pegging and secure the replay.

Persistent rainfall encroached on the quality of play and ultimately left the spectators with very little to shout about in Kenny Park. Sarsfields, after opening the game with the first score, managed to manufacture a five point lead at half-time which they failed to exploit in the second half.

Craughwell were guided back into the game by their star asset Niall Healy, who finished with a personal tally of six points. Trailing 0-08 0-03 at half-time, they crucially nailed the first three points of the second half. Two more frees from Niall Healy brought them to within two of Sarsfields.

Ger O'Halloran reduced the deficit to the threadbare margin of one point on 48 minutes, before All-Ireland winning minor Thomas Monaghan put Craughwell in front inside the final twenty minutes.

But Sarsfields would not be undone and were presented with a final reprieve when Joseph Cooney was said to have been fouled on route to the Craughwell goal, four minutes from the end. And Niall Morrissey stepped forward to settle heart rates among the Sarsfields fans with a point from the resultant free and force the replay.
