"It was just corrupting your mind" - Brendan Maher on pain of last year's defeat to Galway

Tipperary star Brendan Maher says last year's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Galway had a lingering effect for quite a period of time.

Tipp kickstart their 2016 Munster championship against Cork this weekend at Semple Stadium after finishing the "up and down" Allianz Hurling League campaign with two wins and two losses from five.

That came months after they scored three goals in the All-Ireland semi-final against Galway but lost narrowly by a single point.

"It was very tough and there was a few months afterwards where it was just corruptin' your mind but you have to be able to move on and it's something as a sportsman that you have to be able to do," he told Oisin Langan on the Rewind podcast.

The 27-year-old also spoke about the challenge of balancing life as an inter-county player with everyday life.

"It's by choice. I would still do this amount of training if I was playing club hurling but it's about the time constraints maybe of being in a certain place at a time can often hinder your private life. But you just manage it and you do your gym work and your training and you're happy to do it. Then when you're off, you're off," he said.
