A delighted Michael Ryan revels in Tipperary's "day in the sun" after previous Croke Park heartache

Tipperary manager Michael Ryan has credited hard work as the main reason why his team have become All-Ireland hurling champions.

His side beat Kilkenny at Croke Park for their first Liam McCarthy Cup triumph since 2010.

While Ryan cited hard work and self-belief for the victory, he added that "it comes under the banner of intensity".

"We're delighted. It's a huge, huge win for Tipperary and a great thumbs up to an awful lot of hark work that's been done over a very long time," he told Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan.

"We have suffered as much as anyone has in Croke Park on All-Ireland final day or semi-final day so today's our day in the sun. But it would remiss of me not to mention all of the hard work that's going on at home."

The second half performance particularly pleased him against the "top team in the country".

"Today was probably our best second half performance against absolute quality opposition. This is the top team in the country for the last decade and more. And it's here in Croke Park. It is so fulfilling and rewarding for those players."
