Derry's game with Sligo behind closed doors despite NI Executive guidelines

Derry City have confirmed that fans won’t be allowed to attend Friday’s league resumption at home to Sligo Rovers.

The game at the Ryan McBride Brandywell is due to be the first since lockdown in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

On the same night, a crowd of 500 will be allowed to attend the Irish Cup final meeting of Glentoran and Ballymena United at Windsor Park.

That match will be the first on the island of Ireland or Great Britain to have a crowd present since March.

Ulster GAA are allowing crowds of up to 400 at club matches per the latest guidance of the Northern Ireland Executive.

But Derry have decided that their game with Sligo will go ahead behind closed doors at the Brandywell.

Instead they're advising fans to avail of the new WatchLOI streaming service, to which Derry season ticket holders will have free access.

Derry's latest update does not state whether games in August against Shamrock Rovers and Cork City, nor the September 4 visit of Dundalk will allow fans to attend.

Meanwhile, the FAI have confirmed the kick-off time of that game with Rovers.

The Sunday August 9 game will have a 5pm start to facilitate live broadcast by eirSport.

In the SSE Airtricity League First Division, Longford Town's trip to Shamrock Rovers II will now be played on Friday, September 4.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 5, it will take place the day before with kick-off at 7.45pm at Tallaght Stadium.
