Danny Welbeck signs for Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton and Hove Albion have announced the signing of Danny Welbeck on a free transfer.

Welbeck has signed a one-year contract with Brighton following the mutual termination of his contract with Watford last month.

Danny Welbeck

The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker adds to an increasingly potent attacking force for Brighton, alongside Neal Maupay and Aaron Connolly.

“We are delighted to have Danny joining us. He will complement our existing striking options," Brighton head coach Graham Potter said.

“He’s got an undoubted pedigree, and he is quick and technically very good. He will add to our attacking threat and we are thrilled to add another player of his experience and quality.”

Welbeck's signing complements the return of Ben White from loan at Leeds United, and the signings of six players, including the free transfer of Adam Lallana.

“I think Danny’s arrival concludes what we feel has been a very good window for the club," said Brighton's technical director, Dan Ashworth.

“A lot of planning, diligence and hard work went into the recruitment side, and I would like to thank all the club’s different departments for their efforts in achieving that."

Aaron Connolly

Stephen Kenny praised Brighton earlier this week for their relationship with the national side, with their treatment of Aaron Connolly and Jayson Molumby.

"Brighton have been fantastic," Kenny said when asked about the Premier League side releasing Connolly for international duty.

"Their manager Graham Potter is a brilliant football man, and he understands that we have two young players here in Aaron Connolly and Jason Molumby who have come through at Brighton and are playing for their first-team now.

"He understands the importance for them to play for their international team and he's been brilliant really."
