Conor Murray agrees IRFU contract extension

Conor Murray has agreed a deal to stay at Munster until the summer of 2024.ย

The scrum-half has signed a new contract extension with the IRFU to stay with his home province.

Having made his Munster debut in 2010, Murray has made 153 appearances, scoring 170 points.

He is also on course to win 100 caps, having already played 92 times for his country.

Murray's spell in green has included three Six Nations titles, including the Grand Slam campaign of 2018.

Last summer, he was made Lions captain in the absence of injured skipper Alun Wyn Jones.

Speaking about his new deal, Murray said that he was pleased to have his future plans in place.

โ€œIโ€™m delighted and grateful to be able to continue living this dream of playing here in Ireland.

"With my home province Munster and the national squad, I truly believe thereโ€™s huge potential of success and that there will be many more big days ahead.โ€

He'll hope that the coming years can see him achieve more success with Munster. He won a Celtic Cup in 2011.

Indeed, he will be playing under another head coach from next year, with Johaan Van Grann set to leave Thomond Park for Bath.

Declan Kidney has been linked with a move back to Limerick.

The IRFU's High Performance Director David Nucifora said that while Murray has had injury issues in recent years, he continues to play a crucial role.

โ€œConor has had some challenges in the past few seasons but has put some niggling injuries behind him to play a central role with Munster, Ireland and the Lions.

"He is a popular figure in every squad he is involved in and adds a huge amount of experience and value to younger players coming through.โ€

Munster's St Stephen's Day clash with Leinster has been postponed.

They're next in action against Connacht on New Year's Day.
