Bohemians return another round of negative Covid-19 test results

League of Ireland football has been given another boost with the confirmation that Bohemians have returned all negative Covid-19 test results once again.

This was the third round of tests for COVID-19 for players and staff at the Dublin club, as part of the FAI’s pilot programme for a safer return to action for all Irish football.

FAI Medical Director Dr. Alan Byrne received the results earlier today after Bohemians were tested on Monday evening.

All of those tested have been informed of their negative result.

Players and staff at Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers and Derry City also returned negative results in round three of the testing and were informed of their results yesterday.

All three rounds of results so far from testing on the four European qualified SSE Airtricity League clubs have produced negative results in preparation for the four-team tournament next month.

The tournament in Tallaght is being played with a view to getting the four clubs prepared for European competition later this year.

Bohemians boss Keith Long spoke after the club's collective training session on Monday which was conducted while respecting the limit of fifteen people (including two coaches) per session.

Long believed it was an important step in the process to get the season back underway.

"Delighted to be back today. Delighted to welcome back the team today," said Long.

"They'll come in in two groups to respect the latest raft of guidelines from the government. It's a real positive step forward to return to football.

"We're really looking forward to it. I know the players are looking forward to it. The staff are excited about getting back involved, getting back to training, getting back to playing football.

"Today is a really significant step in that process."

The FAI have yet to announce plans to restart the Premier Division and First Division seasons but the rest of the clubs will be allowed to begin training again next Monday, 15 June.
