The Final Whistle: Dunne leads the way at the open

GOLF

Paul Dunne still has a share of the lead at the 144th Open Chamionship.

The Greystones man shot an astonishing bogey-free 66 today to go into the final day tied with Jason Day and Louis Oosthuizen on 12-under par.

Tomorrow, Dunne is on the brink of history and can become the first amateur since Bobby Jones in 1930 to win the Open.

Jordan Spieth is lurking just behind at 11-under, while Padraig Harrington is next back, on 10-under.

The Stackstown golfer also avoided a bogey today to card a 65 and said he didn't look at the leaderboard at all.

Earlier, Graeme McDowell carded a third round 70 which leaves him on 2-under for the week.
