The Aviva Stadium has previously hosted college football teams with great success. Notre Dame and Navy played the first game in Ireland in 1996. The one-off game became a series when the same two teams returned in 2012. On that occasion, the revamped Aviva Stadium accommodated huge numbers of fans from America.

Notre Dame fans in particular travelled in huge numbers and created a party atmosphere that enveloped Dublin. It was as big of an event as any GAA game.

College football is America's favourite sport because of the play on the field but also because of the pageantry off of it. Cheerleaders, mascots, former players and halftime bands will all be there to entertain the crowd. It's the perfect day out for any family or a great day for friends out for a Saturday.

Northwestern and Nebraska have played each other 13 times. Nebraska won seven of the previous matchups.

As the official home team, Northwestern will be acting as hosts for Nebraska while both teams visit Dublin. Pat Fitzgerald is the Northwestern coach.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our entire university community, from student-athletes to coaches, alumni and fans,” Fitzgerald said.

“We are thrilled that our program will get to experience the beautiful Irish culture, while we continue to help grow the game of college football on a global stage.”

Irish fans have previously watched future NFL players such as Tyler Eifert, Chris Godwin and Harrison Butker in Dublin. Don't miss out on your opportunity to do the same. See the present stars of college football, the future stars of the NFL and enjoy the party while doing so.
